McCarthy’s Barber Shop

309 Howard Street. Petoskey

This building was once home to McCarthy's Barber Shop, where, in the fall of 1919, the young Hemingway likely went for a shave or haircut, and definitely enjoyed the banter of the patrons. He also likely took advantage of the public baths located in the building’s basement. The shop is referred to in Hemingway’s novel, The Torrents of Spring.
