Pinehurst and Shangri-La*
5738 Lake Road, Boyne City (The first two dwellings on the east side of Lake Street as it descends to the bay on Lake Charlevoix. )
Jim and Elizabeth Dilworth operated Pinehurst, a country inn providing meals and lodging for tourists. The Hemingway family became their friends and Ernest often stayed here when visiting his Horton Bay friends. In September 1921, his wedding reception was held here and next door at Shangri-la, a rooming house the Dilworth’s also owned. Hemingway’s stories “Up in Michigan” and “Summer People” include Pinehurst references.
